frequently asked questions (faqS)- pet bereavement

Do you provide counselling for the loss of all types of pets?

It doesn't matter what species your pet was. The pain and grief  doesn't differ.

So whether it be a cat, dog, rabbit, fish, snake or any other pet, we are here to support you.

What is the length, cost and frequency of the pet bereavement counselling sessions?

Each session lasts for approximately 1 hour. The session costs $140.

You may need only one session or decide to have a few sessions or perhaps decide further down the track that you would like more support. It is totally dependent on what you feel you need. You will be fully supported in whatever decision you make.

How can I access this service?

This service is available via Zoom, Phone, Skype and Microsoft Teams.

What about confidentiality?

The session is  fully confidential. This will be discussed at the beginning of the session.

What will the session involve?

A quiet confidential space will be created where you will be supported and accompanied through the feelings of pain and grief surrounding your pet and to work through any difficult emotions you may be experiencing.

How do I make an appointment

Appointments or further enquiries can be made through the website or by email or phone

FAQS - CANINE MYOFUNCTIONAL THERAPY

What do I need to do to prepare?

It is recommended, wherever possible, that you exercise your dog prior. Ensure your dog hasn't eaten for approximately  1 hour prior to and after the session.

The treatment will be performed in a quiet place, free from children, other pets and noise, where your dog feels comfortable. I will need a bit of space for your dog and I, so I can move around.

Allow approximately 60 mins - 90 mins for the first session and 60 mins for any subsequent sessions.

How much does it cost and how many sessions will be needed?

The initial consult is $130, which includes gait, posture and balance assessment and a soft tissue analysis to identify any abnormalities that are causing your dog discomfort. The treatment will be tailored and applied as necessary.

Any subsequent sessions will cost $110, which involves follow up assessment and treatment provided as required.

A 10% discount will apply for 3 pre booked treatments.

Depending on the condition, your dog may need 2  - 3 treatments up to fortnightly apart and thereafter monthly. For longer term conditions, such as arthritis, your dog may need more treatments.  Every dog is different and progress will be evaluated after each treatment and the length of time between treatments will be adapted accordingly.

Findings and further recommendations will always be discussed with you.

Are there any risks of the treatment?

Done by a certified professional therapist, Canine Myofunctional Therapy  is a very safe effective treatment.

However there are certain situations, related to specific medical issues, injuries or disease whereby massage would be contraindicated. It would be advisable to seek advice from your vet prior to treatment if you are unsure or contact me for further information.

As a qualified therapist your dogs health, wellbeing and safety is my top priority so I take contraindications extremely serious and will always do an in-depth "health check" prior to treatment.

If my dog is a puppy, easily excited, nervous, overactive or can't sit still can they still have CM

Some dogs may take time to realise that the massage is a safe and positive thing. This is especially true for anxious dogs. The important thing is for me to get to know your dog a bit and for your dog to get to know me, to build some trust.  I aim to promote a positive and relaxed experience for your dog.

I will be guided by your dogs response. I won't force any treatment on your dog that they feel uncomfortable with. It may mean them having a break, getting used to me touching them. I will be going at your dogs pace.

It may even mean that in the first session, not much deep tissue body work will get covered however it sets the ground for subsequent sessions.

Is CMT a substitute for veterinary care?

Absolutely NOT.  CMT is complimentary to veterinary care. There may be times when we work in conjunction with your veterinarian to ensure we provide the correct treatment for your dog. Prior to any treatment being applied I will require a dogs full past and present history and current details of medications and any other relevant information. You may need to obtain this information from your veterinarian prior to our appointment.

Which Geographical Areas do you cover?

Doggies and Soul cover Sydney Metropolitan. Contact me if you're unsure if I cover your Area.

There may be a charge for travel beyond these Areas. If you can get several people together I am happy to travel further afield and offer a group price, which would include travel costs and time however would be cost effective for you.

Please contact me to ask any questions or for further information.
